Hever Castle Christmas wedding Sparklers

Hever Castle wedding – Ajit and  Sarah’s Christmas wedding.

As we all struggle our way through the beginning of another lockdown, I wanted to share with you one of the last weddings I photographed last year at the breathtaking Hever Castle, in amongst the most amazing Christmas lights, a dreamy Hever Castle wedding.

Planning a Hever Castle wedding in covid.

As with all couples who got married last year, getting to the wedding day was a difficult journey for Ajit and Sarah. They even moved their wedding date back a week hoping for an easing of restrictions and to be able to have a wedding reception. Sadly the restrictions were not lifted and they were only able to have a wedding ceremony with their closest family and Ajit sister on a Zoom call from abroad. Sarah and Ajit are planning to have their wedding breakfast, again with their closest family and friend, this year back at Hever Castle.

Planning a wedding in Covid is a journey of uncertainty and being open to adapting at the last minute but as with every wedding I have had the honour to photography in 2020 it is worth all of the uncertainty when the wedding day finally comes! If there is one thing we all need right now is, something to look forward to and a reason to celebrate with the people that mean the most to us! So for those of you planning your wedding now, keep the faith, it will be worth it !!!

A small and perfect wedding ceremony.

The Astor Wing, an Edwardian wing of Hever Castle, with its magnificent oak panelling and ornate fireplaces is a stunning setting for a small and intimate wedding ceremony. Even with just a handful of guests, Sarah and Ajit’s wedding was wedding overflowing with love and emotions. Sarahs Dads face says it all, happy, proud and full of emotion.

Sparklers anyone?

A beautiful tradition that has begun to happen more and more in 2020 is that of sparklers. With few or no wedding receptions last year a gorgeous moment that can happen with those at your ceremony is sparklers! I love this shot of Ajit and Sarah, surrounded by their closest family and the castle behind!!  What a perfect end to a Hever castle wedding.

A Hever Castle wedding amongst the Christmas lights.

The Christmas lights at Hever Castle are stunning and every year they are different and this year they did not disappoint!! I LOVE photographing night shots and to have the backdrop of lighting like this is my idea of heaven!!! So we headed off into the gardens, with the weather gods on our side, to paint with light!!! These sort of photographs really are painting with light and although I love black and white photographs the colours of these Christmas lights were every wedding photographers dream!! What more could you ask for from a Hever Castle wedding at Chrismas.

The last Hever Castle wedding of 2020

This wedding was the perfect end to what was a pretty trick year all round. A day of love, light and laughter and laugh I did as this amazing couple’s happiness was so infectious! I have to also point out that although we missed the rain on our wander through the lights and gardens, the ground was totally waterlogged but Sarah was totally unfazed by it and by the end of our walk and as the rain had started to arrive the bottom of Sarah’s wedding dress was ….well shall I leave it to your imagination but I did not want to witness Sarah’s Mum seeing the state of it! Sarah thank you for being game and up for our outdoor adventure, I hope the photographs were with it!!!

Thank you for reading this blog and I hope you have enjoyed it! Please do check out my blog page for more wedding inspiration and to see a Hever Castle wedding set in the Italian Gardens in the summer click here.

“Knowing we were planning on getting married at Hever Castle in December, we wanted a photographer who knew the venue well and could take outstanding photos in low light. Danni’s website provided an excellent opportunity for us to see her work and when we enquired with her she was able to let us see more photos before we committed.

In our zoom meetings with Danni before the day, of which we had at least 3, she put us at ease with her professionalism and kindness. Her willingness to be flexible in order to make our special day possible was so appreciated.

On the day Danni was exactly the right combination of being hidden in the background and right there when we needed a bit of direction. Her years of experience means she knows better than us what makes great photos and she gave us some great tips which really helped as this sort of thing doesn’t come naturally to either of us.

Danni made the effort to get to know us, listened to our ideas and requests and then brought it all to life on the day. She made some brilliant suggestions too such as how and when to do the sparkler shots, resulting in some really unique photos which we will always treasure. Her editing skills are second to none – the wet weather did cause my dress to get dirty but you’d never know from the pictures, and during the brief rain showers Danni was encouraging and her sense of fun made the whole experience a joy for us. We couldn’t recommend her more highly.”
